The Newstead Historical Society acquired the Rich-Twinn Octagon House in 1981. Since that time, countless volunteer hours have resulted in the beautifully restored home that graces Main Street today. Those who have been residents of the area throughout this time period remember being called upon for their support at the time of acquisition. Businesses and individuals gave generously, and the society was able to accomplish a monumental goal: not only restoring the Rich-Twinn Octagon House, but also earning a place on the National Register of Historic Places, a designation earned in 1995. The society is eternally grateful to all who made this dream a reality. In addition, the Newstead Historical Society also operates the Knight-Sutton Museum at 123 Main Street, which is used for historic exhibits. We are fortunate to have this property as well, but it also needs to be properly maintained.
The upkeep of these two museums is vital to our mission. Any donations will be used for continual maintenance of the museums. Any donation is greatly appreciated.
We are a 501(c)(3) organization and your donation is tax deductible. You may donate by printing, and mailing in the donation form with a check. Thank you for your support!
