The Newstead Historical Society has a special interest in the wonderful old homes and buildings in our town and village since our beginnings in 1958. In fact, one of our 1960 charter provisions is “to mark places of historic interest with suitable monuments and markers.” The society gives the distinguished “100” marker and a registry number-marker to homes and landmarks which are 100 or more years old in our community. The registry is a local listing only. There are more than 110 qualifying homes and buildings registered. Names are given to the homes with the original owners name first and then the present owner – example: the Rich-Twinn Octagon House. Charles Rich was the first owner and Clark Twinn was the last owner. Many Century Homes are set up this way, but there are some with only the one family name given.
