Business Exhibit to Open Sunday, April 6th:
Cement, cigars, healthy spring mineral water and mushrooms
are just a few of the items that were once well known
products of Akron, NY. A History of Businesses
will highlight many of the Akron and Newstead businesses
from the past and give a history of some of those that we
know and appreciate today.
Did you
know that Akron was famous in the nation for the growing of
mushrooms? Did you know that Akron was a leading
manufacturer of cement in the late 1800’s? Did you know that
people traveled for miles to purchase their cigars and bathe
in the mineral springs baths right here in Akron?
Be among
the first to see the new 2008 exhibit this spring at the
Knight-Sutton Museum on Sunday April 6th
beginning at 1:00pm. Light refreshments will be served.
Regular hours are: the first Sunday of every month from
1:00pm-3:00pm; Wednesdays from 10:00am-1:00pm; or any time
by appointment 542-7022 or 542-2994.
